You won't believe which country manufactures the suitcases for the new BMW R1300RT
The BMW R 1300 RT features the equipment expected from a German motorcycle in its class. Do you know who manufactures its cases?
Both the BMW R 1300 RT and the R 1300 RS are potential leaders in the sport-touring segment for the coming years.
Both motorcycles come equipped with cases developed in the technical department of NAD and manufactured at their facilities in Barcelona.
The relationship between BMW and NAD, a Spanish business group, began more than 25 years ago.
In fact, the initial project was the production of cases and seats for the first German custom, the BMW R1200 C.
In later years, many models have been developed with their cases and seats for the most iconic BMW motorcycles.
More than one million products
To date, more than one million cases and seats have been manufactured for over 20 different BMW models.
Among them are the GS 700/800/750/850/1150/1250, the nineT family, the R 850 R, and the predecessor K 1600 models.
All of them have left the factory equipped with cases and seats developed and manufactured at the Mollet del Vallès facilities, Barcelona.

The new cases produced by NAD for BMW have had to pass more than 30 quality tests to be accepted by the Bavarian brand.
Long-duration tests stand out, as well as watertightness with the motorcycle in the wind tunnel, UV tests, vibration, electrical component tests...
Only in this way has each product been approved to achieve the relevant certification for subsequent commercial activity.
Two years of work
In total, more than two years of work have been required, from the first design concept to the start of mass production. This challenge speaks to the work carried out in all departments of the company.

NAD has developed a complete set of equipment for the R 1300 RT with two expandable side cases, as well as the trunk with capacity for two helmets.

The cases feature a variable expansion system that allows the load capacity to be modified, adapting it to the user's needs.
The variable expansion is achieved through a toothed strap, which transmits the expansion force throughout the entire frame.

With proximity key
The cases of the R 1300 RT and the R 1300 RS share as a common feature the "keyless" technology.
It is based on the transmission of energy through a floating magnetic connector developed by BMW and adapted to the needs of the project.

This connection between the motorcycle and the case allows, through a motor and an electronic actuator, the opening and centralized locking.
At the same time, it ensures the anchoring of the case to the motorcycle and the activation of the courtesy light.

In the RT trunk and one RS side case there is also a USB power outlet.

For the sportier RS model, two non-expandable side cases have been developed, with 6.9 gal. (26 liters) and 7.7 gal. (29 liters) of capacity depending on the muffler.

Meanwhile, the BMW R 1300 RT is also available in a "Police" version for law enforcement agencies.
In this case, two cases and a trunk specifically designed for a motorcycle with these special features are included.
