You didn't know about this new electric scooter brand and we've already tested it

The data reported for the Efun Lion 180 place the Seville-based brand at the center of everyone's attention

These things still happen. You're in the office, reading emails about the day's news.

You get one with an invitation to a press presentation from a little-known brand.

It's not unusual, with a electric scooter brand, of which several are launched every year. But it's not normal for a formal presentation to be held.

Even less so, on a racetrack, in Seville, and in June. Demanding conditions for an electric scooter.

A complete Efun range, with a star at the top

It has a very wide range and some of those retro-style models you know under other brands that don't offer much, except for an eye-catching price.

However, this time it's worth paying attention. Then you see that in this brand, headquartered in Seville, things are changing.

They showcase a new range of scooters and even their names draw attention, as they refer to big cats, as do their specs.

For example, the Lion, the top of the range, is equivalent to a 125 cc, so you can ride it with a car license.

It claims 11 kW (14.75 hp) or, in other words, 15 hp, the maximum for the category. It also offers a range of up to 180 mi. (290 km) and a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h). It's quite spectacular, of course.

Is it true?

It's certainly not a typical presentation. Seville, in June, in the afternoon, and about 99 °F (37 °C), without exaggeration.

As you know, that's not good for batteries.

On a racetrack, fast, technical, and, of course, very large for these scooters. It'll serve as a first contact.

If you ask me before getting on, I would've said it wouldn't be much. A couple of laps around the track at full throttle and the temperature will make us stop.

But no. It goes pretty fast, handles very well and is pleasant and comfortable. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

What the Efun Lion 180 is like

It's long, striking, different, although not very different from a current gas or electric GT. With the Lion, EFun has exclusivity for this body and design.

EFun are the exclusive distributors of the Chinese manufacturer that makes them and it doesn't seem likely they'll manufacture for other brands.

The main part, the battery and motor, are striking. The battery isn't removable, as it's quite large. As much as 175 Ah at 72 V, according to official data, which equals no less than 12.6 kWh.

It's a significant figure. A Zero FX, the lightweight enduro or supermoto from the American brand, has a 7.2 kWh battery.

A Zero S, the sporty one almost considered the "Tesla" of motorcycles, reaches 14.4 kWh. Honestly, with more than 12 kWh as EFun claims, for 125 performance, it's no wonder the range skyrockets.

The motor is one of those mounted in the rear wheel. The suspension features a standard fork and two rear shock absorbers with separate reservoirs.

For its brakes, it features an automatic regenerative system (not adjustable) and two front discs with radial calipers. In this, it shows a much sportier look than the rest of the scooter.

It comes with Michelin tires as standard, on 15" front and 14" rear wheels, a TFT screen with CarPlay, and a proximity key. A well-equipped scooter.

We hit the track

Its technical sheet is missing data. We don't really know how much it weighs or the dimensions of that standard fork.

We have enough to get an idea of how this Lion 180 will behave when we put it to a real test. Not just this first contact. For now, it's enough.

You turn the key and a well-designed color TFT screen lights up. We're told the scooters we're going to test are pre-series and things will change with the production models. Among other things, the dashboard.

You twist the right grip and it responds correctly. There are several riding modes: Eco, Urban, Sport, and Boost 10". The last one raises its speed above 87 mph (140 km/h) for 10 seconds, for overtaking, for example.

The riding position is very GT, quite integrated into the scooter. The controls are well positioned. They're pleasant to the touch, although the rear brake is a bit too spongy.

The scooter behaves quite nobly. The chassis is very acceptable and the Michelin tires do their job very well.

It accelerates quite well on the straight. However, on the section we have open, we can't reach 81 mph (130 km/h).

We have seen it reach 75 mph (120 km/h) and a bit more, and it still had more to give. But it's time to brake.

We can't know its range because, precisely, one of the functions that wasn't working on the dashboard was how much battery you had left.

However, the motor or battery didn't show any signs of weakness at any time despite the Seville heat.

The rest of the range?

The Efun Lion 180, as I said, is a pre-series. There are adjustments, like the paint on the brake calipers or some bodywork tweaks that should be improved. Before talking, we'll have to see how the production units arrive.

Moreover, it won't be the only one. The Lion has a surname (180), as there's also a Lion 150.

The 180 already has a price in Spain. A MSRP of €7,290 is planned, discounts and Moves plans or similar aside.

For this reason, in case you don't need as much, a Efun Lion 150, with a smaller battery of 150 Ah and 10.80 kWh, is coming. It also saves on other components.

It comes with CST tires, which perform very well, more standard suspension, and doesn't add Boost mode. However, it does keep the other three riding modes.

It claims the same 11 kW (14.75 hp) of power and on the track there's not much difference in performance or behavior. You save a bit, as it comes in at €6,590.

We've also tested other models in the range

The Tiger is a city scooter with a modern look, similar in style to a benchmark like the Yamaha NMax. It has the same battery capacity as the Lion 150, a 7 kW (9.4 hp) motor, and features like a TFT dashboard with CarPlay.

It's very interesting, accelerates well, and runs smoothly, although it might lack a bit of chassis for that performance. Fun to ride and for €5,990.

Finally, there's the EFun Deer, priced at €4,290. It's a medium-high wheel scooter with 14" wheels, 7 kW (9.4 hp) of power, and removable batteries. Its focus is very urban.

In this case, we're looking at a scooter with a more modest power level. However, it's enough for the city. It has a chassis capable of providing a sense of stability and noble reactions.

The EFun are already here

All these scooters are part of EFun's range. It's shaping up as a brand with enough experience to know our market.

They have more than 30 sales points throughout the country. They'll start delivering scooters this very month, as they arrive.

The EFun come with a 5-year battery warranty, extendable to eight years. This helps build greater trust in their new scooters
