3 reasons that make 2025 a historic year for the motorcycle market
The first six months of new motorcycle sales show us a reality in the midst of a transformation process
The figures obtained at the close of the 2024 season already predicted a clear change in the motorcycle market in our country. However, its scale is reaching levels that escape all traditional analyses.
The first relevant data point is the growth in motorcycle registrations. The industry's own association predicted at the beginning of the year an increase of around 1.4%.
This figure seemed logical after a 2024 with a 10% increase compared to the previous year. These numbers resulted from extraordinary registrations due to circumstances such as the end of Euro 5 series or unique promotions in the case of KTM Group.

The 2025 campaign breaks all barriers. The market is up 6.6%, so the ceiling of 250,000 units will undoubtedly fall by the end of the year. However, this increase hides three more very interesting details behind it.
1. Scooters as the engine, once again
This 6.6%, as in cowboy movies, hides "a good guy and a bad guy." The good guy is scooters, with an increase of 12.6% compared to 3.5% for conventional motorcycles.
The bad guy is off-road motorcycles, with a drop of 42.1%. Without the negative contribution of the latter, 2025 would be even better.
If we focus on the results for June, scooters are up 29.2%, which predicts that this segment continues to rise. Nearly 6 out of every 10 motorcycles sold are scooters.

2. The statu quo of brands has definitely changed
This upward trend comes hand in hand with new protagonists. Chinese brands have established themselves as stellar and constantly growing names.
Three of them are reaching growth levels straight out of science fiction. Zontes achieves an increase of 139%, Voge 84%, and QJ Motor 109%. All of them are consolidating among the 10 best-selling brands in Spain, from which names like KTM or Aprilia have disappeared.
Zontes's third place in registrations from January to June 2025 is a historic event. In 2024, it reached ninth place in the final ranking.

3. The "bosses" are still the same
In the top two positions in the motorcycle brand ranking, we have a classic. Honda has held the highest spot for nearly four decades.
Yamaha follows, trailing by 9,608 units. Compared to the third place, it leads Zontes by 7,648 units.
Nevertheless, the adaptability of the two Japanese giants is surprising. Their commitment to the most distinctive technology and the experience of their networks are key factors.

Honda is managing in 2025 to increase its market share compared to 2024. Meanwhile, in Spain it is one of the highest among leading European markets.
Indeed, in 2024 it finished with a share of 21.7%, and in 2025 it adds two points to this figure (23.8%). However, Yamaha also increases its contribution, from 15% to 15.2%. To keep or increase share in a rising market is excellent news for the leaders.
The Spanish motorcycle market will never be the same again. Its new members will rewrite its history. Additionally, brands that offer all the quality and after-sales guarantees of the most veteran ones, but at a price unattainable for these.

Although the best part is that the total market keeps rising. This will mean that the role of motorcycles continues to grow, with all the benefits that entails.
The motorcycle sector is a top-tier economic, social, and cultural component in our country. Its role in terms of mobility is essential in terms of efficiency and effectiveness.
The increase in scooter sales reflects this truth, but so does the increase in motorcycles as leisure objects, with all the positive activity that entails.
